Good for you Trace! My family also had chores. Each of us had a "dish night," and whoever had dish night had to rinse the plates and put them in the dishwaster, but everyone had to help clear the table and put the leftovers or condiments away. I used to complain like CRAZY about dish night, I even made my mother buy me rubber gloves to avoid the "germs" of my family. But I did it. We also had to clean our rooms and bathrooms, and other assorted chores. Everyone helped with folding laundry on Sunday afternoons (it was this: church, lunch, football/laundry, sleep). And I think we turned out the better for it. My brother is actually a GREAT housekeeper. I still hate washing dishes.
Imagine my horror and surprise when I got married and my husband swore he did not know "how" to clean a bathroom. I thought it was kidding. At some point, early in our marriage, he squirted a bunch of soft scrub on a mirror to try to clean it. It was blurry and gross for MONTHS! I forgave him, and made him learn how to clean it right. But we've got to do this at LEAST until we've got some kids who we can assign it to!! :)

Omigod I totally agree with you. Our kids are so going to do chores. And there'll be no such thing as a free "allowance."

Bret to this very day complains about having to mow "acreage" when he was young. Lucky for our kids, we'll never have "acreage".
