Glamour Shot

She looks like . . . . Me. It’s not me, it’s a model named Lizzie Miller. But, she looks like a normal woman. One I might encounter anywhere, including in my mirror.

I gasped when I saw it. In a good way. I’m not sure why I would prefer to see more women looking like this in mainstream media, but I would. I guess it’s a similar experience to seeing the Dove Real Beauty Campaign for the first time. Us. Real.

The editor, Cindi Leive of Glamour Magazine sounds open to it, according to this article. She also invites readers to tell her what kinds of photos they’d like to see featured in Glamour Magazine. So go tell her!

I’m also really, really curious . . . how does this photo make you feel, knowing that it was in Glamour Magazine?

She is gorgeous! Love it. She is certainly not perfect, but that’s what makes her so perfect! I hate the airbrushing, fake boobs, liposuction, and all that other stuff.

In short, I want to see more just like her! She’s REAL.

Hooray!

I love the picture! She’s all the more beautiful because she’s REAL!!

*THIS* is what I want to see in a magazine. Real, beautiful, non-airbrushed women.

I love that women are lifting up this model – according to the update she’s really soaking in this collective embrace – and seems like the editor is listening.

Here’s my comment:

“I can’t say I’m in the “I hate skinny girls” camp, I’ve always been naturally tall and slim. But consider me firmly entrenched in the “anti-airbrush” side. I love seeing her belly and body here (naturally skinny girls get those bellies too after kids!)because it’s HONEST. We desperately, all of us, no matter body type, or skin color, or hair texture, all of us need to see OURSELVES represented somewhere! We need advice that actually applies to us. We need a range of fashion that we can actually afford and that actually works on our bodies. It is imparative that we stop comparing ourselves to air-brushed, flaw-less images that aren’t really even a reality for the models being photographed. Yes, they are prettier than the rest of us, but none of them are nearly as perfect-looking as the final image presented to us. Women are drawn to shows like “What Not to Wear” and “Biggest Loser” because these shows actually give us advice we can apply to ourselves. I want to see REAL women with normal, healthy bodies. I want to see pale, freckled, red-heads sometimes! I want to see what to wear to drop my kids off at school for a change! Show me how to be GLAMOURous at a soccer practice or in the grocery store every once in a while. And lets be HONEST about how this perfection we see is obtained. Between the spray tans, the airbrushing, the professional lighting, the team of stylists and hair people, we regular women of the world don’t stand a chance in hell of measuring up. Thanks for giving us a break – even just this once.”

I’ve always been a fan of plus-size models! There’s a great site with lots of images of plus-size models here:

They’re all gorgeous.
