I am sorry, but...
"Was there some evolutionary shift in the Universe that made girls way more desperate for love and affection than teenage boys are to touch boobs or have sex?"

Are you serious? You obviously have some issues with your own sexuality if you are making it about love and affection from men. I started masturbating when I was 12 and it was about making ME feel good.

We should be stressing the fact that sex without love and respect is no fun. Maybe if young girls got to know their bodies better they wouldn't waste as much time trying to get it from some fumbling teenage boy who won't know what he's doing for another 15 years.

Fingers are the best and don't need to be purchased. Talk about ownership. They own the fingers AND the sexual pleasure.

This is about attitude. I'm not saying you have to tell your kids that sex is dirty and they can't pleasure themselves or that it's wrong or dirty - as past generations did, and which leaves some kids feeling shamed - but, neither do parents need to supply them with machinery when a physiological diagram and a finger will do quite well.

Ummm trust me- no teenage girl is going to go around touting her vibrator to her friends, it's not gimmicky, it a way for girls to begin to understand sex is normal and to take ownership over their bodies and their pleasure. Men have that because they are encouraged to masturbate from the time they are young- from their dads and their peers. When you leave girls to their own devices to "secretly order it off the Internet" or figure it out themselves with their hands it makes it taboo. For girls masturbation is covered in this veil of secrecy that ultimately tells girls that they shouldn't be able to pleasure themselves and in addition that their pleasure is not important. This has implications that many women feel for the rest of their lives. I agree that a vibrator is hardly a deterrent but it does allow young girls to take ownership of thor own sexuality and make decisions about what they want to do with it. If you'll notice- men have no problem with this. Do you by think that young men demanding to be pleasures sexually by young girls is related to their encouragement to masturbate at a young age? Boys are taught that their sexual gratification is something that they deserve and that they should own. If more young girls felt the same I think we would see more girls standing up for themselves. When young girls don't feel ownership over their own sexuality they are fine with someone else (young boys) telling them that they have a right to it. And like I said, this lack of ownership can have implications on a woman's sex life for years to come.

I agree with others the physical need comes second to the emotional. Also a teenager or even an adult does not need a vibrator for sexual pleasure - they have hands they can use for sexual exploration. I think owning a vibrator could become gimicky among teenagers (bragging about what they own)and I don't think that is a good thing.
